Gurvinder is from 1983-87 batch of DMET Calcutta (now Marine Engineering Research Institute).
Gurvinder Chopra is currently working as a Vice President-Standards & Regulation for Electro-Federation Canada, a Not-for-profit Association of Canadian Electrical manufacturers, distributors and manufacturing agents. In his current role, he is responsible for initiatives around standards development, product testing & certification and he leads the advocacy efforts with Municipal, Provincial and Federal Governments.
Before joining EFC, Gurvinder worked with CSA Group (www.csagroup.org), where he started with managing operations of Industrial and Hazardous location product certifications in Canada, followed by heading Cross Market programs consisting of certification services like Functional Safety, Global Market Access, Cyber Security, Inspections and Management Systems. In his last assignment, he worked as a Director – Global Accounts looking after business development, sales and training needs of few key global clients of CSA.
After DMET, Gurvinder sailed for 10 years in early part of his career with more than a year as a Chief Engineer. Subsequently, he worked with companies like Lloyd’s Register & BSI (British Standards Institution) in their locations in India, UK, USA and Canada, managing the Operations of Management Systems, Marine & Industrial certifications, and Quality, Environment, Occupational Health & Safety, & Risk Management system services for variety of industries and ships. He has also
worked in Iraq as part of United Nations ‘Food for Oil’ program.
Gurvinder has undertaken Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from McMaster University, Hamilton, Operations Management Certification program from Loyola University, Chicago and recently, completed a program on Sustainable Business Strategy from Harvard Business School.
Gurvinder is passionate about the maritime industry and as part of his giving back to the society, he would like to contribute his efforts in support of the seafarers’ community.
